Born December 2003 in Brooklyn, New York
Precious Eseosa Star’s work mines for both guilt and relatability, mobilizing a twisted sense of humor to offer tender yet forceful performances of black adolescence, nostalgia, and distorted self-image. With the depicted scenes’ radical, charged clarity makes room for a new sense of ambiguity, a moral ambiguity, where these beast-like self portraits remain fixed in a state of being othered, the canvas/page’s conditions and viewer’s gaze forming battlegrounds for instigating, resisting, and persevering through their own annihilation.
